Spring Forward with plumTeacher: Countdown to March Break with Teacher Reading Picks

February has been a demanding month. Between one of the coldest stretches of winter, report cards, parent teacher conferences, and the steady commitment educators bring to their classrooms each day, it has been both busy and intense. With March Break just around the corner, this is a natural moment to pause, reset, and look ahead to the final stretch of the school year. Like Teachers on Call, Indigo deeply appreciates teachers and the dedication they bring to students every day, especially during this demanding time of year. In celebration of that commitment, and the excitement building toward Spring Break, plumTeacher Weekend returns to stores across Canada from February 26 - March 1, 2026, giving educators the opportunity to treat themselves while preparing for the break ahead. Our President & CEO, Joanne Sallay, along with members of our tutoring team, who are also elementary and secondary classroom teachers, are sharing some of our favourite reading picks to explore during plumTeacher Weekend, just in time for March Break. Read on to discover our top #TeacherPicks.

plumTeacher Is Back: February 26 – March 1, 2026

Indigo’s plumTeacher program is designed to support educators year-round with exclusive perks including curated resources, newsletters and appreciation initiatives. The February plumTeacher Weekend is the perfect moment to explore inspiring reads while enjoying teacher-exclusive benefits in-store.

#TeacherPicks: Classic Favourites Recommended by Teachers

While classroom libraries and professional resources are always top of mind, March Break also offers something equally important — time. Time to slow down, recharge, and read purely for enjoyment.

Our Teachers on Call in-home and online tutoring team often reminds students that one of the most important habits to build is reading for pleasure. The same advice applies to educators. After all, fostering a love of reading begins with modelling it. These timeless classics are personal favourites recommended by our tutors, who are also elementary and secondary classroom teachers. They are books that have stayed with them long after the final page and are perfect to explore during plumTeacher Weekend.

With a well-earned break on the horizon, these selections are ideal to purchase and enjoy during those quiet March Break moments.

Austin’s #TeacherPick

Candy Shop
Every good book is even better when paired with something sweet. It is hard to tell exactly what Austin is eyeing here, but our guess is some fun, themed candy to make this Teacher Pick even more delightful.

Sarah’s #TeacherPick

Sarah loves the classics and had a hard time choosing, so she selected two - a beloved title by Roald Dahl and The Giving Tree, a long-time teacher favourite and also a Heather’s Pick.

Madison’s #TeacherPick

Madison loves exploring French resources and was naturally drawn to Je Suis Moi by Peter H. Reynolds. For added enrichment, it pairs beautifully with its English companion, I Am Me: A Book of Authenticity, creating a meaningful bilingual reading experience.

Lexie’s #TeacherPick

Can you tell that Lexie loves teaching math and science? Her enthusiasm shines through in Simply Science: Facts Made Easy. This accessible and engaging resource explores the core sciences - physics, biology, and chemistry - while also diving into Earth science and astronomy.

Karen’s #TeacherPick

For a Canadian favourite, Karen chose Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch - a playful, laugh-out-loud story that pairs perfectly with a cozy plushie. Snuggles and story time never go out of style with elementary students.

Our #PresidentsPick

Joanne loves Indigo - it is her happy place. This season, she is gravitating toward healthy cooking books and immersive fantasy reads, including a recent Hooked on Books interview with Manitoba author Nisha J. Tuli.

As always, she enjoys browsing the local and Canadian author section, discovering reading-inspired clothing, making hydration fun throughout the day, and finding practical favourites like laptop desks that make homework sessions feel a little cozier.
